Cookie Cutter Braid Hair Tutorial

A Braided Half Ponytail Hairstyle
Cookie Cutter Braid Tutorial

This "cookie cutter" braiding tutorial is the first official hairstyle of 2014 uploaded on Princess Hairstyles.com!  Happy New Year everyone!

And, contrary to the old saying... we did not name this braid the "cookie cutter" because it is ordinary or standard. This braid is quite the opposite actually and looks quite unique. ;) We named it this because the shape of the braid really reminds us a lot of some cookie cutters we have in our kitchen drawer, which are stacked together with the smallest one in the middle and the largest on the outside. Do any of you have a set like this and know what we are talking about? This style also reminds me a bit of a Christmas tree ornament and would be a cute Christmas hairstyle!

This cute hairstyle is inspired by an idea we saw on Pinterest awhile back and is actually very similar to the scallop edge braid we posted back in 2012. As you will see in our video tutorial below, it is yet another variation of the Feather Braid.

Of course, there are several ways you could utilize this braiding technique to make different hairstyles.  If you would rather wear your hair all up, you could feather a French braid (or Dutch braid) and create this cookie cutter look laying on top of the braid.  The feathered strands could also each be braided, instead of left plain (like we did here) for another look.  Depending on the length of hair you are working with, you can do more or less loops along the edges of the braid.

  1. That's a really pretty look! I know just what you mean about the cookie cutters. It also reminded me a bit of a music page, the treble clef and bass clef, and rests in sheet music! I wish my daughter would have had the patience to sit still when she was younger so I could have done things like this with her hair ;)

  4. This is really pretty and one I think I can manage! You always have such gorgeous hairstyles and you are the one who taught me, via your tutorials, how to do a fishtail! I'm still working on the french braid, but I'll get there!

  7. That's so pretty! It's a good thing I don't have a daughter, I can barely make a regular ol' ponytail.

  13. My 3yr old daughter's hair just doesn't seem to grow at the moment. I long for the day I can make pretty braids in her hair - this is so beautiful!

  14. I wish my daughter's hair was long enough to do this, how cute.

  15. What an awesome hair blog. This is really pretty. I wish I could do more with my hair. Call it laziness, at times my arms get super tired and I give up. But then their are those special occasions when I force myself to work with my hair. My daughters are grown not living at home anymore, with two men in the house I get no help when it comes to my hair.
