A Braided Half Ponytail Hairstyle
This "cookie cutter" braiding tutorial is the first official hairstyle of 2014 uploaded on Princess Hairstyles.com! Happy New Year everyone!
And, contrary to the old saying... we did not name this braid the "cookie cutter" because it is ordinary or standard. This braid is quite the opposite actually and looks quite unique. ;) We named it this because the shape of the braid really reminds us a lot of some cookie cutters we have in our kitchen drawer, which are stacked together with the smallest one in the middle and the largest on the outside. Do any of you have a set like this and know what we are talking about? This style also reminds me a bit of a Christmas tree ornament and would be a cute Christmas hairstyle!
A close up of the braid.....
This cute hairstyle is inspired by an idea we saw on Pinterest awhile back and is actually very similar to the scallop edge braid we posted back in 2012. As you will see in our video tutorial below, it is yet another variation of the Feather Braid.
Of course, there are several ways you could utilize this braiding technique to make different hairstyles. If you would rather wear your hair all up, you could feather a French braid (or Dutch braid) and create this cookie cutter look laying on top of the braid. The feathered strands could also each be braided, instead of left plain (like we did here) for another look. Depending on the length of hair you are working with, you can do more or less loops along the edges of the braid.
Supplies needed:
- 2 small hair elastics
- Pomade, Gel, or Hair Wax
- A ribbon or other hair accessory (optional.)

That's a really pretty look! I know just what you mean about the cookie cutters. It also reminded me a bit of a music page, the treble clef and bass clef, and rests in sheet music! I wish my daughter would have had the patience to sit still when she was younger so I could have done things like this with her hair ;)
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me with every single hairstyle. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely gorgeous! I do not think I would be able to do that.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty and one I think I can manage! You always have such gorgeous hairstyles and you are the one who taught me, via your tutorials, how to do a fishtail! I'm still working on the french braid, but I'll get there!
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful, I wish my mom had been able to see this site when I was little, I would have been infinitely more popular in school. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're an artist! If I had a daughter her hair would be a mess. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so pretty! It's a good thing I don't have a daughter, I can barely make a regular ol' ponytail.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 daughters! Love it and just pinned it to try out!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou are talented!!
ReplyDeleteYou braid to effortlessly, I'm amazed by how well your daughter sits still. My five year old is a wiggle wiggle worm.
ReplyDeleteThat is SO pretty! I need a niece to use this braid on!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Now I need a girl to do this to! lol
ReplyDeleteI can't even do a french braid... I'm hopeless, lol. This looks great though!
ReplyDeleteMy 3yr old daughter's hair just doesn't seem to grow at the moment. I long for the day I can make pretty braids in her hair - this is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI wish my daughter's hair was long enough to do this, how cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome hair blog. This is really pretty. I wish I could do more with my hair. Call it laziness, at times my arms get super tired and I give up. But then their are those special occasions when I force myself to work with my hair. My daughters are grown not living at home anymore, with two men in the house I get no help when it comes to my hair.
ReplyDeleteI look at all of your pretty ideas and it is one of the reasons I am growing out my 4 year old daughter's hair.
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty, I wish I had a girl to try them out on.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! My goal this year is to master one basic yet pretty hairstyle for myself.
ReplyDeleteAmazing looking beautiful. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like this! Amazing! Looks truly like a princess.
