Kaleidoscope Loop, Pull-Through Ponytail Hairstyle

Kaleidoscope loop, pull-through ponytail hairstyle tutorial.

This week's ponytail hairstyle is partially inspired by a photo we saw on Pinterest a few months ago, as well as a technique used in the half-up "heart knot hairstyle tutorial" we posted for Valentines Day a couple of years ago. We did change up the technique a little bit from the heart hairstyle for this ponytail, by bringing the strands under first (instead of over) while creating the loops.

This would be a great back to school hairstyle since it is fairly quick to do and so cute!  Because elastics are used to form the loops, this should hold up fairly well throughout the school day too. You could change the colors of the elastics to match your outfits, or use clear if you want a more subtle or "grown up" look.

We thought the finished pattern on this ponytail ended up resembling something you would see while looking through a kaleidoscope!

Back to school hairstyle! Kaleidoscope loop pull through ponytail tutorial.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  • 1 hair tie for the top of the ponytail
  • Several small hair elastics (the amount will depend on the length of hair you are working with.)
Depending on the texture of hair you are working with, I would suggest creating this hairstyle using damp hair, or adding pomade, gel, wax, etc. before tying the knots and creating the loops (to help avoid flyaways.)

This should work with long hair, medium hair, straight hair, wavy hair, and possibly curly hair.  Of course, the longer hair you have, the more pattern you can create on your ponytail.
