Beverly Hills Chihuahua Hairstyle

I had a reader email me about a hairstyle she had seen in the movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua." I had not seen the movie, but of course I was curious about the hairstyle so I had to rent it, LOL. We took a trip to the Redbox last weekend and for $1 I'm so glad we did! My kids liked the movie and The Princess loves this new hairstyle we TRIED to recreate. I couldn't find a picture online to show what this is supposed to look like. But, if you end up watching the movie, it's the hairstyle Piper Perabo (Rachel) is wearing towards the very end. So anyway, it doesn't look quite like the original, but I did the best I could to copy it. :) I started with a part down the middle, then 2 parts on each side going behind each ear. Yep, they're crooked, I didn't worry too much about getting this one perfect, it's supposed to be a little messy. At least that's my excuse for the messy parts :)

So, you're going to end up with 2 sections on each side of the middle part (4 total.) One at a time, take a section and twist it towards the middle of her head. Keep twisting until it looks sorta like this and temporarily hold it in place with a clip. Get all four sections twisted. Both sections on the right side are twisted counterclockwise. The sections on the left are twisted clockwise. Join them all together in the middle with a clear elastic.
In the movie I didn't see any elastics, but I wasn't in the mood to figure out how they did that, kwim? Then of course later on while doing the hairstyle I though of a way to hide the elastic but didn't want to go back and redo. So, you'll see how I hide another elastic a few steps down. Just do that here too if you want it covered, k.Ok, now take the hair in the ponytail and make some little twist braids with it (if you don't know how to do a twist braid, click on the link, you'll find an instructional video there!) I did four.Flip the twist braids up out of the way and form a section underneath like this......Bring the twist braids back down and add to the ponytail you just made, securing with an elastic.
Make 2 more sections on both sides, twist and cross them over the elastic. Then, bring them underneath the ponytail. (This is what I'm talking about with hiding the other elastic, you could do the same thing on top with the outside sections.)

After you cross and bring the sections underneath, secure them with an elastic under there.

And here's what you'll be left with. See, I really should have done that top section over. Now that elastic is bugging me and it's such an easy fix. Oh well, maybe next time.

I think Piper Perabo might have naturally curly hair, I don't know. But in the movie it was kind of loosely curled and messy looking. I didn't have time to go into all of that, The Princess was almost late for school. But, in the past I've made similar curls by wrapping the hair around the outside of the curing iron instead of clamping the hair inside the usual way.

I loved how this looked when she came home from school. It was a little messier and had loosened up a bit. It actually looked more like the original do in the movie at that point.

So now I'm wondering if any of you have seen the movie and if you noticed this hairstyle when you watched it?

Whould you like to comment?
