Update: We weren't completely happy with our first attempt at this style, so we tried again. I have to say... our 2nd recreation came out much better. Click here to see our second try: Gossip Girl Hairstyle #2 :)
This "twisty ponytail" is a hairstyle that has been requested time and time again on both our facebook page as well as in email. It seems as if I've seen this picture everywhere! But, I never knew where this image originated from until yesterday. When I uploaded the tutorial to Youtube, someone recognized it right away as a hair style from Blair on Gossip Girl! Well, I've actually never seen the show... but love love love this simple and original style!

Of course, there are several different ways this hairstyle could be created. I'm thinking a basic fishtail braid at the top of the ponytail would work. Or you could make a low ponytail and pull a topsy tail through it for a similar look. Do whatever works for you!

Here is our recreation. When I first saw the original style, I thought it looked a lot like this twisty hairstyle we posted awhile back. So, that is the basic technique I used. In retrospect I would have done a few things differently to make a more "exact match." :) For one, I would have made the twists a little tighter to keep them separated. Also, I would have crossed that bottom twist (on the right) over the last twist on the left (instead of going straight across with it.) You can learn from my mistakes, but all in all I think it turned out pretty good!

A huge thanks to those of you who requested this fun style and also to the original creator (the hairstylist for the cast of Gossip Girl?) We had fun with this one!
Love this! Need to try this on myself in the next few days :)

ReplyDeleteThanks again. I appreciate your sharing your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute! I agree..pretty and easy!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so cute and looks easy enough to do!
ReplyDeleteI think it turned out great and that is a really cute style. I want it for myself!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter has beautiful hair and I have been wondering, how do you get your daughter's hair so smooth and shiny? Do you use a special conditioner or serum? My daughter's hair is coarse and doesn't lay pretty. I would appreciate any ideas! Thanks for your great hairdos!
ReplyDeleteI love the hair of this child. I've been reading and watching this blog and I do really like her hair. The new hair twist looks cute. Just like the girl.
ReplyDeleteVery nice simple style that shows you took the time to fix your hair, but you don't need it to be coiffed to perfection. It's like a laid-back version of formal hair styles.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute. Oh I'd wear this in my hair
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I should just come over to your house in the morning and I'll line up behind princess to get my hair done! Absolutely love this! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutly most beautiful, I love it, Can't wait to do this on my daughter tomorrow. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI think it's just what we call a fishtail--like a french braid with two strands. They slide down and would rest on the covered ponytail.
ReplyDeleteI love the ponytail but I love the color & shine of your hair even more! I would love to have mine exactly like yours! :)
