Shooting Star Braid Hairstyle

A diagonal French Braid with Rope Braid accents.

This cute braided hairstyle would be great for summer, a fun 4th of July hairstyle, or perfect for dance, gymnastics, sports, school, swimming, skating... many occasions!

The Princess's Dad named this braid the "shooting star" and I think he nailed it perfectly.  The micro braids (or accent braids) spreading out into a triangular shape look just like the tail end of a shooting star!  If you have a star shaped hair clip, pin, bow, or even a star sticker, you could place it over the elastic to emphasis the shooting star look. (This would be especially cute if you are wearing this hairstyle for the Fourth of July. ;)

We love this style because although it is unique and eye catching, it is also very easy. We have combined some ordinary rope braids (or twist braids) and a basic French braid to create this shooting star braid.  Nothing too difficult.  ;)

Of course, you can mix things up and use any type of braids you want to form this design.  This hairstyle looks very cute with a diagonal Dutch braid instead of a French braid.  You could also finish this style with a bun instead of a side braid if you are looking for more of an updo.

We used a Topsy Tail to flip the ponytail holding all of the micro braids under.  This is optional of course, I think it helps the style lay a little bit nicer.  You can leave the ponytail "as is" if you want... or if you want the ponytail flipped, but don't have a topsy tail, you can always use your fingers to flip the hair.

  • 1 medium size elastic.
  • Topsy Tail (optional.)
  • Several clips or hair ties to hold the ends of the micro braids while you are working.
