This week we are continuing on with our back to school hairstyle series. This bun is very simple and cute. So easy that "The Princess" has been doing this style on herself. A great DIY hairstyle! This updo isn't anything super creative or extravagant. But, it is always nice to have a few basic, quick and easy hairstyle ideas for busy school mornings as well as for work, sports, dance, ballet, or gymnastics class. And, although this style can be worn for casual occasions, it is elegant and sophisticated enough that it can also be perfect for a wedding, prom, church or other more formal event.
Since "The Princess's" hair is quite long now, it is sometimes difficult to wrap all of that length into a standard bun without it looking "knobby" or sticking way out from her head awkwardly. Not to mention, it takes a ton of bobby pins to keep it in place! We have found that the technique shown in our tutorial (below) seems to make a much more compact and pretty bun. This sophisticated looking up-style is achieved with minimal effort and minimal pins. Beyond the practicality of this style, all of the individual strands (which are seemingly woven intricately together) also add beautiful visual interest to the style, which is always fun.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 2 medium ponytail holders, hair ties, or elastics.
- 3 temporary hair ties to hold the braids while you are working.
- Several bobby pins. We used MetaGrip miniature pins.
- Finishing hairspray or gel (optional.)
Besides this one, we have posted several other easy DIY hairstyles recently (since The Princess has been learning to do her own hair.) In case you have missed them, you can find the links here:
