We bought a fake Tyme Iron!
Do "knock off" 2 in 1 straighteners and curling irons work? Today we are giving our review and tutorial of an off brand iron that looks a lot like the original Tyme iron called a "twist straightening iron." Watch our video below to see what we think!

As mentioned in our video, we were unaware that we were purchasing the "fake" until after we bought it. We had seen the ads on Facebook showing people effortlessly and quickly styling their hair with these irons and we wanted to try it. We thought we had bought it on sale, but later found out that the one we purchased was a knock off brand. Spoiler alert... the iron does work and we have learned to love the way it curls. But, we have only owned it for a few weeks, so I can't say how long it will last. I'm assuming the Tyme iron is built better and they offer a warranty. Also, 2 in 1 hair curlers and straitening irons that are set up like this have a pretty significant learning curve. It took me a lot of struggling to get it right. I've heard if you purchase a Tyme iron, they offer 1 on 1 tutorials through face time for free! The knock off versions do not offer that.
Some stats on the iron we bought from the website:
*2 in 1 Curling Irons & Hair Straightener, can Straightening and curly hair.
*3D Concave & Convex plate heating surface, Straighten hair more smooth, Curl hair more dynamic.
*4 adjustable temperature settings for all types hair: 140℃(285℉),180℃(356℉),200℃(392℉),220℃(428℉)
* Dual voltage and 360° swivel salon grade cord, 2.5m power line. *Compact size with light weight, suitable for business or travel.
* Create any hairstyle in minutes, from loose beach waves to tight ringlet curls, meets different occasions like dating, party, club or meeting.
In our tutorial, we show how to use the iron on someone else (not yourself.) If you want to curl your own hair, the steps are the same, you just need to switch your thumb to the opposite side of the iron (behind the power button.)
P.S. The doll we used in this tutorial is called "my salon doll" and has real human hair. Do not attempt to use heat tools on a regular doll... it won't end well!
So, what do you think? Is it worth the extra money to buy the authentic name brand? I guess only time will tell.
